Is Your Podcast Feeling a Little Stale?

Has your podcast lost its luster?

Here are 3 ways to breathe new life into your podcast without blowing up the entire thing.

1. Perform Maintenance on Key Communication Pieces

First, let’s tackle the core elements of your podcast: your show description, trailer, and categories.

Update Your Show Description:

Ask yourself if the description still represents what your show is about. Does it entice your ideal listener to tune in and subscribe? If not, it’s time for an update. Consider adding a new tagline or tweaking the current one.

Refresh Your Show Trailer:

Listen to your trailer and see if it still aligns with your current content and skills. You’ve probably improved as a podcaster, and your trailer should reflect that. Re-recording a new trailer can also spark new topic ideas.

Reevaluate Your Show Categories: Especially if you’re wrapping up your first year, check if your chosen categories still fit your content. Changing categories can help attract new listeners. Just ensure the new categories are still relevant to your content.

These maintenance tasks should be revisited every 50 episodes or once a year.

2. Upgrade Your Artwork

Your podcast artwork is the first thing potential listeners see. While a complete redesign isn’t necessary, consider a subtle update. Maybe change the colors or add a new photo of yourself. Think of it as a small cosmetic update rather than a full facelift.

3. Experiment with Your Format

Try experimenting with your format. If you usually do solo shows, try having a guest, or vice versa. You could also tweak your intro and outro or even try a new sign-off. The key is not to make too many changes at once, so your audience still recognizes your show while appreciating the fresh take.

Considering Bigger Podcast Changes?

If you’re contemplating major changes like the name of your show, your target audience, or your content plan, then you’re looking at a complete tune-up, not just a refresh. Your show needs to evolve along with your business, and that’s where professional help comes in.
