A Workout for Your Podcasting Voice
We weren’t all born with deep booming voices but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of what we have. So, in this episode, I’m giving you my podcasting voice workout. Are you ready to pump it up? Read this now and do what I say later…
Okay, okay put down the protein shake. It’s not that kind of workout.
I have a confession to make. I don’t have the strongest pipes in the world. In fact, when I used to do voiceover work, I routinely got called in for ‘nerd’ and ‘weakling’ roles. Ouch. But, that never stopped me. I knew two things – what you say is more important than how you sound and how you sound can be tweaked with a little work.
The one thing you should never do – fake it. Don’t try to pull of a regular podcast in a voice that is not your own. If you turn on the mic and drop two octaves, we have a problem. There is room for every kind of voice and there is a way to make your voice much stronger.
In this 5 minute podcast, I’m going to walk you through several vocal exercises – so maybe don’t listen to this one on the bus unless you’re totally okay with the stares in which case, fill yer boots.
I’m going to have you humming and motor boating and trilling and shrugging and breathing. Oh, you are going to sound and look like a total weirdo! So, close the door, press play and let’s work it out!
